Murphy eyes recall as Dempsey hurt

GEORDAN MURPHY may be recalled to the Irish team for Sunday’s crucial World Cup game against Argentina at the Parc des Princes following an injury to Girvan Dempsey.

The Leinster man injured his shoulder in his unsuccessful attempt to prevent Vincent Clerc scoring his second try on Friday night and has been wearing a sling since.

Said coach Eddie O’Sullivan: “Girvan is our only doubt, the rest are fine and we will announce the team on Tuesday.”

The players will have a training session beforehand and it will be anxious time for a number whose places are in some doubt after their substandard performances so far. Presumably O’Sullivan wouldn’t look beyond Murphy should Dempsey be ruled out although he could conceivably turn to Duffy to start at number 15. Imagine the furore that would cause.
