Czekaj out of Wales’ World Cup

WALES winger Chris Czekaj is almost certain to miss the World Cup and could be out for up to a year.

Czekaj out of Wales’ World Cup

The Cardiff Blues flyer suffered a broken right leg in the 31-0 second Test loss to Australia in Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on Saturday.

Czekaj twisted badly in a tackle by Wallaby hooker Stephen Moore.

The 21-year-old underwent surgery in Brisbane and has been told he can’t fly home for at least 14 days.

The injury to Czekaj cast a shadow over the Wales tour party as Gareth Jenkins’ men prepared to head for the airport without the 6ft 3in player.

Shane Williams, Mark Jones and Gareth Thomas — who led Wales down under — were all ahead of Czekaj in the wing pecking order for September’s World Cup.

But the youngster was still likely to have been in Jenkins’ final squad of 30 and pushing for a starting spot.
