IT’S six o’clock on Wednesday evening and Richard Kearney is making the first of two visits to Donnybrook this week.

His brother Robert lines out with Leinster in a friendly against Treviso and, four days later, Richard will return to watch his youngest brother, David, line out at full back with Clongowes on a day when the home of Leinster rugby will turn different shades of blue for the province’s Schools Senior Cup final between the Kildare college and St Michael’s.

Richard and Robert are past pupils of the Kildare rugby nursery, reaching Senior Cup finals in 1997 and 2004 respectively but, alas, took the lonely walk up the steps of the West Stand in Lansdowne Road to collect runners-up medals on those St Patrick’s weekends.
