Munster expected to announce Carney signing

Born in Cork in July 1976, Carney, standing just under six feet and weighing 14 ½ stone, is a qualified lawyer who caused a surprise when retiring from Rugby League in mid-January.

He played gaelic football in his youth with Valleymount in Wicklow and won a junior championship medal with them in 1998.

He also sampled Rugby Union at Clongowes Wood College.

In 2005 Carney moved to Australia where he played National Rugby League for both Gold Coast and Newcastle Knights.
