Inpho man snaps up IRB photo of year prize

THE International Rugby Board (IRB) has announced that a photograph by Morgan Treacy of the Inpho agency in Dublin has won the inaugural IRB/Emirates Airline Rugby Photograph of the Year Award.

The winning picture, titled ‘Mud, Glorious Mud’ was taken during an AIB Division One league match between Clontarf and Shannon in Dublin and depicts Clontarf’s James Purue caked in mud drawing in breath following the loss of a lineout.

“Morgan Treacy’s black and white picture is a really striking image that people involved in the game at all levels, whether a player or supporter, can relate to. It is a starkly emotional picture, encapsulating a moment of sheer physical exhaustion and is a worthy winner” said IRB chairman, Dr Syd Millar. Treacy will be presented with a trip for two to the Emirates Airline Dubai Sevens courtesy of Emirates Airline at the IRB Awards in Glasgow, Scotland on November 26.
