Couple to make 20,000km trip to support Munster

SOME people will go to any lengths to follow Munster at the Heineken European Cup final.

But few will match the effort of a Limerick supporter and his Cork girlfriend. They’re travelling over 20,000km from New Zealand by air, train and road.

David McCloskey, from Corbally, Limerick, and Elaine Blackshields, from Mahon, Cork, who met at a Munster rugby match in Limerick last year, will make the longest journey of any supporters to get to the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff.

The pair expect their bank accounts to go from all-black to bright red as the trip will cost them in the region of €3,000.

Speaking from New Zealand, David said: “It was a simple choice really. We listened to the semi-final over here on the internet and the moment Munster were through we decided we were going to the final. There was no way we could miss it.”

The pair will leave on the Wednesday before the game and hopefully arrive in London the following day. “There are five flights and seven stops before we get to the game,” said Mr McCloskey.
