THE suggested formation of a Celtic Tigers representative team to play test rugby against touring sides from the Southern Hemisphere, has received short shrift from the home unions.

Following suggestions from Celtic League director David Jordan that a team from Scottish, Welsh and Irish Celtic League teams would make up the Celtic Tigers, the national unions involved have described the idea as “far-fetched.”

Jordan is keen to promote the Celtic League brand and, in the wake of the huge attention focussed on this week’s announcement of the British and Irish Lions squad, he believes he has spotted the perfect opportunity.
