O’Driscoll wins fans’ vote to take Six Nations player of the championship

Fans were asked by the tournament’s official website, www.rbs6nations.com, to select their dream team each weekend, and over 10,000 votes were cast for O’Driscoll throughout the championship.

“It’s a great honour to be named RBS player of the championship especially as this is voted for by rugby fans,” the Irish captain said.

“This award caps a tremendous RBS 6 Nations for Ireland. Whilst we missed out on the title only on points difference, to pick up the Triple Crown at Twickenham was very special.

“I would like to thank the fans for voting and my team-mates as it is as much a vote for them as for me.”

Meanwhile, Scotland international Bruce Douglas has signed a new two-year deal with Border Reivers.

The 26-year-old prop will link up with fellow internationals Ross Ford and Gavin Kerr in the Netherdale front row next season.

Scotland back-row forward Kelly Brown has also signed a new two-year contract with the club.

Douglas said of the deal: “Teaming up with Ross Ford and Gavin Kerr next season will give us a pretty impressive front row.
