He suffered the injury at training on Tuesday and was carried from the field by team-mates.

It appears that Traille will miss all three of France’s November Tests - against the Wallabies this week, Argentina in Marseilles next week, and New Zealand in Paris the week after.

Team doctor Thierry Hermerel said Jauzion faced up to three weeks on the sidelines after scans revealed he had badly sprained his ankle.

The 24-year-old will be replaced by France’s international player of the year, Yannick Jauzion, who had been surprisingly left out of the starting line-up by coach Bernard Laporte.
