Kilfeacle go clear of the pack
Kilfeacle moved to top spot with a 29-0 win away to St Senan’s. Derek Ryan put the visitors ahead with a penalty after seven minutes and tries from Ger Breen and Philip McLaughlin and a Ryan conversion made it 15-0 at half time.
McLaughlin and Trevor Byrnes added second-half tries and Ryan converted both for a deserved win.
Bruff easily brushed aside the challenge of Youghal when they ran in ten tries in their 60-20 home win.
At the other end of the table St. Mary’s were relegated after they lost at home to Bandon 26-7. Mike Mooney scored a try for the home side and Jason Hayes converted.
The big upset of the day was at Rathcooney, where Richmond kept their slim hopes of staying in the top flight alive with an 18-17 win over Old Christians.
Crosshaven eased any fears of relegation when they travelled to Tipperary and defeated Clanwilliam 26-10. The visitors led 13-10 at half time with a try from Donogh Murphy and a conversion and two penalties from Dan O’Donovan. Derek Shields replied with a try for Clanwilliam and Eamon Buckley kicked a conversion and a penalty. The visitors added a try from Merle O’Connell and a conversion and two penalties from O’Donovan .
Tralee have opened up a four point lead at the top of the Second Division after their 74-5 home win over Waterford City. The Kerry side ran in 12 tries. Gareth Walsh scored two and seven conversions; Joe Costelloe scored four; Nessan Crean and P.J. Linnane two; and Brendan Crowley and Con O’Connell one. Wayne Manning replied with a try.
Cashel kept their promotion hopes alive with a 16-12 win over joint leaders Thurles. Thurles dominated the opening half and led 12-3 at the interval. Robert Heap and Jason Kavanagh scored tries and Kavanagh converted one. Trevor Breen kicked a penalty for the visitors. Breen added a penalty, before Ed Lonergan got in for a try nine minutes from time and Breen converted. Breen dropped goal in the ninth minute of injury time.
Skibbereen kept up their promotion challenge with a 52-7 win at home to Muskerry. Timmy Keating gave the visitors the lead with a try which Kevin McCarthy converted. The home side hit back with three tries from Ivan Jennings, two from Barry Dodd and Mike Clarke. Sean Coppinger and Brendan O’Donovan got one each. Tyrone Taipa kicked six conversions.
Ballincollig are still in search of their first win, after they lost to Kanturk 22-12. Dave O’Brien scored two tries for the winners and Tom Ahern and Dave O’Leary added one each. Paul Cotter kicked a conversion. The visitors replied with tries from Willie Schubert and Keith Stafford and Ken O’Connell kicked a conversion.
A drop goal in the final minute by Liam Dooley denied Douglas a chance to move out of the relegation zone, after Castleisland emerged winners 9-7.
Charleville defeated Ennis 17-5 to leave the Clare side close to relegation. Barry Crowley scored two tries for the North Cork side. James Leahy converted both and kicked a penalty. Kieran Brown replied with a last minute try for the home side.
Abbeyfeale maintained their lead at the top of the Third Division with a 48-0 win at home to Dungarvan. Denis Collins scored two tries and kicked four conversions. Kevin Prendeville and David Prendeville got two tries each.Declan White and Kieran Collins got one apiece.
Fermoy moved ahead of Mallow into second place, after their 24-17 win away to Carrick-on-Suir.
Mallow’s final home game of the season ended in a 7-0 win over Galbally. Marvin Shorten got the all-important try and Andrew Cashman converted six minutes from time.
Newcastle West kept their hopes alive with a 29-7 win away to Killarney.
Two tries from Sean Coakley and one from Cathal Dineen helped Dunmanway to a 27-9 win at home to Kinsale.
Mark Kingston kicked three conversion and two penalties.
A Fergal O’Connor try and two Shane O’Brien penalties saw Newport defeat Kilrush 11-7.
