Britz banned for two years

Western Province hooker Dawid Britz has been banned for two years after testing positive for an anabolic steroid.

South Africa rugby’s manager of legal affairs, Christo Ferreira, confirmed that the ban would run from the date he tested positive, February 10, until the corresponding date in 2007.

“This sentence should send out a strong message to players that we will not tolerate any contraventions of the International Rugby Board rules regarding banned substances,” Ferreira said.

The 23-year-old is the seventh South African player to be banned in the last decade after a failed drugs test.
