JIM WILLIAMS may have given up the ghost on leading Munster to the Heineken Cup title but he desperately wants to play a role.

Williams had a heart-to-heart chat with coach Alan Gaffney some months ago and, as he edges ever closer to the end of a glittering career, nominated Anthony Foley to take over as leader.

There was no doubt in Gaffney’s mind, however, that Williams should be retained for another season because, in the coach’s words, the Australian back row has come close to being in the same legendary class as Mick Galwey and Peter Clohessy.
