Cup draw throws up college cracker

TWO of the four games in the quarter-finals of the AIB National Cup will have a local edge.

The rivalry between Terenure College and St Mary’s College is legendary in Leinster circles, and the clash at Lakelands on February 11 should provide another indication of that.

Galwegians have been drawn against Connacht rivals Buccaneers and the two Munster teams left in the tournament had varied luck when the draw was made in Dublin yesterday.

Cork Constitution were favoured with a home draw against Belfast Harlequins, while Garryowen, a step above the Cork side in the first division, have to travel to play Clontarf.

Meanwhile, the draw for the AIB Junior Cup also took place yesterday. The competition features two teams per province and includes a full inter-provincial array of fixtures.

AIB Senior Cup:

1. Terenure College v St Mary’s College

2. Galwegians v Buccs

3. Clontarf v Garryowen

4. Cork Constitution v Belfast Harlequins

AIB Junior Cup:

1. Rainey Old Boys v Kanturk

2. Youghal v Monivea

3. Westport v Seapoint

4. City of Armagh v Naas

* Following the completion of the quarter-finals, the winning teams will again be entered into another open draw for the semi-finals, which will be played on Saturday February 25, culminating with the finals on Saturday April 8.
