Ruddock said an injury such as that sustained by Brian O’Driscoll on the Lions tour must never happen again.

“What happened to Brian was unfortunate and unwarranted. All of us involved in the game must recognise that spear tackles and other types of foul play should not be tolerated and must be stamped out of the game.
