In appalling conditions almost identical to those experienced in Athlone this time last year, Munster scraped to a three point win yesterday at the Galway Sportsground.

With a match against Leinster at Musgrave Park on Saturday and the Heineken Cup resuming seven days later, Munster coach Alan Gaffney will have reservations about many aspects of this performance. With six of the front line pack involved, they would have expected to enjoy a greater level of superiority up front.
