Kirwan backs Ireland to claim Triple Crown

ITALIAN coach John Kirwan yesterday backed Ireland to win the Triple Crown at Lansdowne Road.

“I think Ireland is the better balanced team, more powerful and more skilful but the Six Nations has a habit of throwing up unusual results,” the Kiwi said.

“The Scottish pack is fairly aggressive and have a particularly good hooker in Gordon Bullock, a decent second row and a fairly good back row as well. I can’t think, though, that this will pose a threat to Ireland, who are more physical up front. The Irish pack is, arguably, the best in the championship, after matching France, beating England, Wales and us.
