Hayes making full recovery

BIG time rugby matches can take their toll on the fittest, as illustrated by the illness suffered by John Hayes after Sunday’s RBS Six Nations game against Wales.

The Irish tight-head prop ran up such a high temperature that the Irish management had him admitted to hospital, where he was detained overnight. He is making a full recovery.

With fellow prop Marcus

Horan suffering a sore neck and Paul O’Connell recovering from a damaged shoulder, coach Eddie O’Sullivan is delighted his squad have a two-week break.

The squad remains in camp in Co Dublin for the next couple of days. The non-playing members will then be made available for selection in the Celtic League.

But Munster will be severely depleted for Friday’s clash with Ulster at Ravenhill.

Twelve players have been called into the Ireland training camp for this week.

Forwards: Neil Best, Reggie Corrigan, Anthony Foley, Keith Gleeson, Jamie Heaslip, Matt McCullough, Bryan Young.

Backs: Tommy Bowe, Denis Hickie, Rob Kearney, John Kelly and Barry Murphy.
