Wilko in wonder comeback

England’s World Cup winning fly-half Jonny Wilkinson made a stunning return to club rugby yesterday after an 11 week absence, scoring a last minute try and converting it to give Newcastle a 30-29 win over Premiership rivals Sale.

The 25-year-old scored 20 points in total as he edged his rival for the England fly-half spot Charlie Hodgson, who scored 19 points for Sale.

Newcastle went into the 80th minute of a tense game six points behind Sale before Wilkinson’s late score.
