Burt’s boot sinks students
The home side dominated territory and made many openings. However, they could not quite finish off their good approach work, except for Brendan McGeever’s eighth minute try into the left corner. It was left to Burt to punish UCD’s indiscretions at ruck time. He found the post in the fourth, 22nd, 35th and 39th minutes, not forgetting the conversion of McGeever’s try, to give Lansdowne a 19-0 lead at the break.
For a short time, there were signs of a UCD resurgence. Centre Ken Kennedy evaded two tacklers for a 42nd minute try, converted by Killian Lett. This short burst was soon cancelled out by two further Burt penalties in the 45th and 50th minute to make Ross McCarron’s late converted try not more than a statistic.
