OVER half a million people watched RTÉ's coverage of the Grand Slam decider between Ireland and England at Lansdowne Road on Sunday.

Donnybrook officials said that an audience of 503,000 was recorded, which is equivalent to a 58% share of viewers. "We were naturally very happy with the figure, making it easily the most-watched sporting event we have broadcast this year," an RTE spokesperson for RTE said.

Some 5.6 million watched the game on the BBC, the British broadcaster announced last night.
