Percival was carried from the field on a stretcher and spent the night in Limerick Regional Hospital, where initial x-rays did not reveal the extent of his injury.

But after being examined by consultant orthopaedic surgeon Nick Birch at Northampton General Hospital Percival was flown to Oxford’s Radcliffe Infirmary by air ambulance where he has had an operation to stabilise his neck.
