Flatley calls time on career

AUSTRALIA centre Elton Flatley, whose nerveless kicking display forced the 2003 World Cup final against England into extra-time, has retired due to continued blurred vision.

Flatley calls time on career

The 28-year-old has still not shaken the effects of a head injury he suffered last season and the decision to retire was taken on medical advice after Queensland’s Super 14 win over the Western Force last weekend.

“It was a very emotional decision but one that has been made not only in the best interests of Queensland, but also for myself and my family,” said Flatley, who is unlikely to have suffered any permanent damage.
