Take a chance on Look To The West to bounce back from a couple of falls and land the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Beginners Chase on today’s all-chase card in Limerick.

Trained by Henry de Bromhead and winner of a Navan maiden hurdle back in November 2023, beating Bioluminescence, who subsequently reached a mark 147 over fences, the selection went on to creditably finish behind Jade De Grugy in both the ‘Solerina’ and ‘Honeysuckle’ (Grade 1) at Fairyhouse.

The Westerner mare, now an eight-year-old, has run four times over fences, starting favourite for her fencing debut in Clonmel where, sent off favourite and having been hampered at the second last, she finished third to Paggane.

Look To The West stepped-up on that effort to land a ‘mares beginners’ in Kilbeggan thirteen months ago, outpointing Gaoth Chuil.

Off the track from last April until New Year’s Day, she was well beaten when falling at the final fence in a Grade 3 won by the top-class Dinoblue.

Last time, she started favourite for a conditions event in Clonmel and looked held in third spot when capsizing at the second last, leaving the Gordon Elliott-trained pair Maxxum (rated 145) and Dee Capo (150) to dominate.

Rated 135, Look To The West appears to be a cut above her four rivals here. And a clear round should see her return to winning ways.

Henry de Bromhead might also take the Mann Family & Egan Electrical Beginners Chase with Le Coq Hardi, a six-race maiden over fences but boasting solid form and an official mark of 136.

Successful twice over hurdles, this gelding’s chase form includes solid placed efforts behind Gold Dancer, Westport Cove and Gaelic Arc and, last September, a fourth behind Spanish Harlem in the Guinness Kerry National in Listowel.

Returning after a break, Le Coq Hardi has bene found a good opportunity here and is preferred to Eoin McCarthy’s Shadow Paddy, a progressive hurdle who took a listed event at this track last October and was thrown in at the deep end when pulled up in the Grade 1 ‘Sefton’, won by Zeus Power, in Aintree last month.

Cratloe-based Michael McDonogh always enjoys winners at his local track and has a number of chances today.

Among them is Stily, off the course since chasing home Stoneyford Lady at Thurles back in November, in the opening Calor Gas Handicap Chase.
