Down To Business can profit in Roscommon

Roscommon hosts a Flat programme this afternoon and the Andy Oliver-trained Down To Business, who contests the Gary’s Gardening Services Maiden, makes most appeal on the seven-race card.

Sixth on each of his first three starts, the Ghaiyyath gelding seemed to appreciate more testing ground when a fine third behind Subsonic on his most recent outing, and if he can build on that, he will take plenty of beating in today’s race.

This doesn’t look like the toughest of contests and, from a good draw, Billy Lee should be able to grab a handy position early. Given the way he rallied in that Curragh contest last time out, it would be no surprise were he to be sent forward from the outset, and with the climb to the winning post likely to help bring out the best in him, he can take this at the expense of Mocking.

The latter is officially rated 5lbs superior to the selection but has had plenty of chances and his last outing, which was in Deauville, yielded little. He has been off for a couple of months since that outing and will need to come back at his peak to get his nose in front.

There are just four runners in the Roscommon Rated Race and Glenroyal can take the opportunity to put a third win of the season on his card.

After making the breakthrough at the Galway festival, he was turned out 24 hours later and put in a disappointing effort. However, he showed that to be all wrong when winning next time out, at Down Royal.

While he is on a career-high mark, there is no doubt he has not yet reached the peak of his ability and, with the testing ground in his favour once again, he can prove too good for Local Lad, who needs the application of cheekpieces to effect a turnaround in his fortunes.

The opening race is an ordinary maiden and may be the opportunity Galley Point needs to get off the mark. Thomond O’Mara’s colt was well beaten on debut but fared much better on his next start, in a Killarney maiden. Noted staying on nicely that day, he should be suited by this track and can take this at the expense of Teffian Warrior.
