Curragh report: Whirl of excitement as Lordan times it just right

Aidan O’Brien enhanced an already impressive record in the Group 3 Staffordstown Stud Stakes on Tuesday afternoon at the Curragh, but it was the stable second string, Whirl, who obliged, doing so courtesy of a finely judged front-running ride by Wayne Lordan.

The recent Doncaster maiden winner had the inside draw and was able to dominate without having to set fast fractions. Nevertheless, she looked vulnerable when And So To Bed, Celtic Motif and her own stablemate, favourite Giselle, made it all but four in a line inside the final furlong.
