The Noel Meade-trained Jesse Evans, who has contested the last four renewals of the Guinness Galway Hurdle, finishing runner-up twice, belatedly made his breakthrough at Ballybrit when landing the Galway City Beginners Chase on the first day of Galway’s September meeting.

Having his second start over fences, the eight-year-old was patiently handled by Sam Ewing and mastered favourite Shecouldbeanything and A Law Of Her Own on the long run-in to register his eighth career success.
