SEEKING SUCCESS: Mouse Morris can saddle a winner at Kilbeggan on Wednesday.

Kilbeggan hosts the jumps action this afternoon and For Fear Of Frost can get trainer Mouse Morris back amongst the winners by taking the Follow Kilbeggan On Instagram Maiden Hurdle.

The selection has had just six outings to date but thus far he has been unable to build upon the promise of his debut, when he finished runner-up to Impaire Et Passe. Although he was well beaten that day, it was a decent start and, on the back of that, he was certainly disappointing when contesting a bumper on his second start.

He has had a couple of breaks since then but his last two efforts pointed at him retaining the ability to win races. Both of those were handicaps and this race is a maiden, but there is not much depth to the contest and if he is ready after his 62-day absence he will take quite a bit of beating, particularly with the return to three miles sure to suit.

Isle Of Sark can give him most to think about. Shark Hanlon’s horse has had two runs over obstacles and stepped forward nicely from the first to the second run. On the latter occasion, he found only Marv Michael too good, and that level of form ought to be good enough to ensure a bold bid here. However, he was a winner on the Flat, back in 2020, and is carrying a penalty here. His rider, Paddy Hanlon, offsets much of that, but Isle Of Sark may have to settle for a minor role once more.

Leading Lion shed his maiden status by winning a handicap hurdle at the recent Bellewstown festival and can follow up in the Kilbeggan Racecourse Novice Handicap Hurdle. The four-year-old contested four juvenile hurdles during the winter and ran reasonably well without ever threatening to have a say in the closing stages of those races.

He then had a couple of spins on the Flat and showed the benefit of his mid-July outing by making a winning return to hurdling. That was his first jumps outing on decent ground and it clearly suited as he posted a career-best effort. He is 10lbs higher this time but there is plenty of potential for further improvement and provided there is no deterioration in conditions he will take beating once more.
