Those lining up in summer’s chasing highlight will gallop past the starter at around ten past seven this evening in a quest to add their names to the roll of honour for the Tote Galway Plate, a race first run in 1869.

The history of the Galway races is deep and fascinating, and the only three-time winner won his third Plate 122 years ago. No horse since has matched what Tipperary Boy achieved in 1899, 1901 and 1902, but many have tried.
