Ryan Moore’s decision to ride Content in Saturday afternoon’s Juddmonte Irish Oaks at the Curragh has had a huge effect on the market for the middle-distance Classic for fillies and while that decision deserves maximum respect, the one he has overlooked, Port Fairy, will be a tough nut to crack.
On her first start of the season, she won a Dundalk maiden, beating Lady Doris, and stepped up considerably on that effort when just touched off by Forest Fairy in the Cheshire Oaks. She took another huge step forward on her most recent start, when battling back gamely to beat Lava Stream, who re-opposes, in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot.
