McCoy to miss weekend racing

Tony McCoy will not be in competitive action until next week after he suffered a bad fall at Worcester yesterday.

The 18-times champion jockey was dramatically unshipped from the Rebecca Curtis-trained Keep Presenting at the first flight of the Injured Jockeys Fund 50th Anniversary Maiden Hurdle.

Keep Presenting jinked badly left and also brought down the Noel Fehily-ridden St Johns Point in the process, with McCoy also getting a kick for his troubles.

The star jockey received lengthy treatment from Worcester’s medical team, but he was able to walk into an on-course ambulance for further treatment and looks to have escaped serious injury.

McCoy will nonetheless have a small spell on the sidelines.

He tweeted: “Feeling fairly sore this morning after my fall yesterday.

“Won’t be back riding until after the weekend – he (Keep Presenting) got me good.”

McCoy was due to ride at Newton Abbot on Friday, where the track will honour him in recognition of the fact he rode more winners at the venue than any other on his way to his landmark 4,000th career success.

A bronze sculpture will be unveiled before the first race, which will sit in the weighing room.
