Huntingdon and Ayr escape the heavy rain

This afternoon’s meeting at Ayr and Huntingdon will go ahead as planned.

This meeting at Ayr got the green light after a scheduled 7.30am inspection was cancelled.

Clerk of the course Emma Marley was out on the track shortly after 6am and after less than expected rain fell overnight she was able to give the meeting the green light over an hour before the stated inspection was due.

Marley wrote on twitter: “RACING ON – HEAVY – Inspection cancelled ayrracecourse lucky to only get 3.5 mm of rain in past 24hrs. Dry day forecast.”

The National Hunt meeting at Huntingdon got the go-ahead after only 5mm fell in the past 24 hours she was able to give the meeting the green light

Heavy rain in the area caused clerk of the course Sulekha Varma to call an inspection for 7.30am with the threat of heavy overnight rain placing the meeting in doubt.

She tweeted: “Huntingdon: Racing Goes Ahead. 5mm rain in past 24hrs. Heavy ground.”

The first of eight races takes place at 12.10pm.
