Marengo primed for Battle Royal
Investec Derby fourth Battle Of Marengo features in a list of 15 confirmations for the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot on Friday.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt was thought to be Ballydoyle’s first string at Epsom but had to be content with fourth place as stablemate Ruler Of the World took the glory.
Battle Of Marengo had earlier won the Derrinstown Stud Trial in the style of a smart colt and is sure to be a major fancy for this Group Two over a mile and a half.
He could be accompanied to post by two other O’Brien inmates, the highly-promising Gallinule Stakes scorer Leading Light and Flying The Flag, who was eighth at Epsom.
Luca Cumani may give Greatwood the chance to restore his reputation after a poor run in the Dante Stakes, while Sir Michael Stoute could rely upon Hillstar.
Brian Meehan has two possibles in Eshtiaal and Number One London.
Saeed bin Suroor is also double-handed with Secret Number and Tha’ir.
Completing the entries are Roger Varian’s unbeaten Mutashaded, Brass Ring, Contributer, Fantastic Moon, Havana Beat and Spillway.
