Rebel may target Galway Plate

Rebel Fitz could return to the scene of his biggest victory for a crack at the Galway Plate after getting off the mark at the second attempt over fences at Ballinrobe yesterday evening.

The Mick Winters-trained eight-year-old won the Galway Hurdle last summer and may attempt to pull off a noteworthy double.

He jumped with aplomb at Ballinrobe, allowing Barry Geraghty to take things very easy from the second-last.

Leish Oscar closed to within half a length but he was value for much more.

Winters said: “He’ll go for a winners’ race in a few weeks’ time now.

“He’ll then run in something in Galway – maybe the Plate.”
