Otto The Great sees off rivals in Doncaster

Otto The Great made a successful debut over fences with a solid round of jumping in the 32Red Novices’ Chase at Doncaster.

Given plenty of room out wide by Barry Geraghty to have a good look at the obstacles, the Nicky Henderson-trained grey put in an assured display to dispense of three rivals.

Otto The Great (5-2) had a clear advantage from the second-last and went on to score cosily by three and a quarter lengths from stablemate Private Equity.

“He jumped brilliantly. We just got racing a bit early in the straight and galloped into the fourth-last. Apart from that he was foot perfect,” said Geraghty.

“He didn’t win over hurdles but had some great runs. He was second in Ascot early in the season to one of Colin Tizzard’s horses (Ivor’s King) who is really progressive. He disappointed at Newbury, but we always knew he would take to fences.”
