Ayr calls off Monday meet

Monday's National Hunt fixture at Ayr has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track.

Following more rain than expected on Saturday night, clerk of the course Emma Marley swiftly announced an 8am inspection to allow officials to fully assess conditions in the daylight.

It was soon apparent there was no chance of sufficient improvement between now and Monday afternoon and Marley has had no option but to draw stumps early.

Marley said: "We had seven millimetres of rain overnight, which was more than we anticipated and we've now had 65 millimetres in the last week.

"That has left the course waterlogged in places again and we also have an issue with wind.

"We're forecast gale force winds throughout Monday and more rain, possibly up to eight millimetres.

"Conditions are very unlikely to improve and for that reason we've had to abandon the meeting."
