Darren Egan season probably over after broken collarbone
Jockey Darren Egan’s season appears over after he sustained a broken collarbone and a possible dislocated shoulder at Wolverhampton on Friday evening.
The title-chasing apprentice was aboard Juarla for Ron Harris in the opening 32Red Apprentice Handicap when his mount suffered a fatal fall over a furlong out.
Egan was taken to New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, from where X-rays revealed he had broken a collarbone and damaged a shoulder.
Agent Neil Allan said on Saturday morning: “I spoke to him last last night and he was very groggy. He’s choked with what’s happened – the horse died as well so it was really sad. I don’t think we’ll see Darren on the turf again this year.
“He’s had three really bad falls this year so he’s has had no luck whatsoever.”
Egan is second behind Amy Ryan in the race to be crowned 2012 champion apprentice rider.
