Fourth for Dwyer in Paralympic dressage

James Dwyer, originally from Carrigeen in Co Kilkenny, this morning claimed fourth place in the Grade IV para equestrian dressage competition at the Paralympics in Greenwich Park, London.

Dwyer, who is now US-based, rode his gelding Orlando to a score of 69.719, fourth best of 14 competitors in his class.

Eilish Byrne from Co Louth, Ireland's first competitor at the 2012 Paralympic Games in any sport, finished in seventh place in para equestrian dressage yesterday morning.

Byrne, riding her horse Youri, achieved a mark of 67.714 per cent in the Grade II competition.

The remaining two Paralympic dressage riders, Helen Kearney and Gerry Savage, compete later today in the last of Ireland's team tests, which will give a provisional overall team score, made up of the best three results.

The Individual Championship tests then run through to Tuesday - where the best three team scores are also added to make the final mark.
