Three Irish riders qualify for individual eventing final

Ireland's three remaining riders Aoife Clark, Joseph Murphy and Mark Kyle saw Ireland finish fifth in the team eventing competition at the Olympic games today.

Superb clears from Aoife Clark and Joseph Murphy and solid six-penalty round from Mark Kyle saw Ireland move up from their overnight position of eighth.

All three go through to this afternoon's individual eventing final, which involves a second round of show jumping.

Ireland lost two team riders to falls during the cross country phase yesterday - Camilla Speirs and Michael Ryan - so had no discard score available today.

They nevertheless finished ahead of favourites Australia and the United States. Thirteen nations in total took part.
