BHA quash bans handed down to apprentices

Bans handed out to Jacob Butterfield and Ian Burns for their use of the whip in the davisbakerycaribbean.com Apprentice Training Series Handicap at Windsor on Monday have been rescinded.

The British Horseracing Authority launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the pair using their whip in the forehand position, and concluded not all of the jockeys were aware of the particular conditions which apply in the series.

Butterfield, who rode the winner Gracie’s Games, had been suspended for seven days, as was Burns, who partnered runner-up Dancing Welcome. Those bans have now been quashed.

However, a nine-day ban handed to Butterfield for using his whip above the permitted level still stands.
