Akeed Mofeed out of Derby
Akeed Mofeed will not be aimed at the Investec Derby at Epsom next month after meeting with another setback.
The John Oxx-trained three-year-old was due to run in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown on Sunday, but has suffered a strained hock.
Akeed Mofeed will instead be prepared for the Irish 2,000 Guineas in two weeksâ time followed by the Irish Derby at the Curragh.
âHeâs got a problem with his hock,â said Bruce Raymond, racing manager to owner Jaber Abdullah.
âItâs not much of a problem but he couldnât medicate it because itâs so close to the race.
âJohn (Oxx) said heâd rather not go for the Derrinstown, and heâs not going to go for the Derby at Epsom without a prep race.
âHis new programme will be the Irish Guineas and Irish Derby.
âThe problem he had before when he missed his previous race was in front.
âThis time he strained a hock when he worked well on Tuesday. Itâs one of those unfortunate things.
âJohn waited until Friday to make up his mind and he wasnât 100% happy with him.â
