Waterlogged Abbot abandoned

Tomorrow’s National Hunt meeting at Newton Abbot has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track.

Heavy rain over the last few days, coupled with more overnight and an unfavourable forecast, left officials with little option.

Clerk of the course Jason Loosemore said at just after 7am: “We’ve had eight millimetres up until an hour ago, it is still raining and is set to rain all day.

“We’ve had around 47/48 millimetres of rain in the last week to 10 days, and a significant amount of rain due again.

“Some patches are waterlogged now and there’s no prospect for improvement.”
