Tranquil Sea strikes at Navan
Tranquil Sea outpointed Zaarito in a dash to the line to claim the Webster Cup Chase at Navan.
Saddler’s Native made a bold bid from the front and there was all to play for in the closing stages with I Hear A Symphony not far away.
But Tranquil Sea (9-4) and Zaarito pulled away on the run-in and it was the former who scored by a length and three-quarters for jockey Barry Geraghty and trainer Edward O’Grady.
Geraghty also struck on favourites Table Mountain (6-4) and Slievedaragh (evens) for a treble on the card.
O’Grady said of Tranquil Sea: “I’m delighted and he might now run at Punchestown but I don’t know which race as of yet. I’ll discuss it with the owners.
“Barry said he rode him a bit differently today – he understands him.
“I was very disappointed with him at Naas last time but he jumped better today.”
The race was marred by the death of Trafford Lad.
