Bangor call early check

Friday’s meeting at Bangor will hinge on an 8am inspection on Thursday, with officials far from optimistic about their chances of racing.

Clerk of the course Andrew Morris admits the venue is fighting an uphill battle at present, with the track hit by a harsh frost overnight.

He said: “The prospects are not particularly great at this stage. We have avoided all the snow since the weekend and we were raceable by 3pm yesterday, but we touched minus 5C overnight.

“That was quite late and not for long but in terms of the forecast, we are not expecting not much above freezing today and another solid frost, possibly minus 5C, again tonight.

“Temperatures are due to improve up to 2C or 3C tomorrow and stay above freezing into Friday, but we are just concerned about the cumulative effect of the frost.”
