Weather hits Fontwell meeting

Sunday’s National Hunt meeting at Fontwell has been abandoned due to a frozen track.

Clerk of the course Ed Arkell had announced inspection for 12.30pm this afternoon but has decided to make an early decision as the course is showing no signs of significant improvement.

Arkell said: “Temperatures got down to minus 6C last night and the course is frozen solid.

“We are not forecast to get above 2C today and then there is another frost forecast for tonight, with some snow and sleet coming in as well.

“There is no chance racing could go ahead so we’ve made an early decision so everyone knows where they stand.”
