Power in line for Big Zeb mount

Robbie Power looks set to maintain his partnership with Big Zeb when the former champion goes for a second straight victory in the Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase at Leopardstown on December 27.

Robbie Power looks set to maintain his partnership with Big Zeb when the former champion goes for a second straight victory in the Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase at Leopardstown on December 27.

Barry Geraghty has been in the saddle for the majority of the 10-year-old’s illustrious career but was he was claimed to ride for Nicky Henderson at Cheltenham last month leaving Power to steer Big Zeb to a comeback victory in the Fortria Chase at Navan.

With Geraghty once again likely to be in action in Britain on December 27, Power is more than likely to be in the saddle again.

Trainer Colm Murphy said: “I don’t know who rides Big Zeb and again it depends whether Barry Geraghty is in the UK. If he is I have spoken to the owners and I would imagine Robbie Power will be on him as he rode him last time.

“The horse is very good and I was delighted with the manner in which he did it at Navan. He has just been ticking over since and it is all systems go for the Paddy Power race.

“You are always worried on their first run back but it is nice to have Navan under our belts.”

Power added: “Nothing has been confirmed yet but I was chatting to Barry at Gowran last week and he told me that he was 99% sure to be riding in England, horses like Finian’s Rainbow and Sprinter Sacre.

“I am delighted to be keeping the ride and I am really looking forward to it. I rode him in work last week and he was fantastic.

“When I rode him at Navan it was lovely and he jumped fence to fence. He gave me a great feel and quickened up well after the second last. He’s 10 years old but he still maintains plenty of natural speed.

“He is the best horse that I have ridden, certainly the best two-mile chaser. It’s very hard to say the best other horse I’ve sat on but Big Zeb is the classiest.”

Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase – sponsors bet: 8-11 Big Zeb, 4-1 Golden Silver, 5-1 Noble Prince, 10-1 Forpadydeplasterer, 12-1 Tranquil Sea, 20-1 Loosen My Load, Saludos, 25-1 Scotsirish.
