Robert Thornton will remain in hospital until Thursday morning after suffering a broken arm at Hereford on Sunday.

The leading National Hunt rider parted company with Western Whisky in the totetrifecta Handicap Chase and was taken to hospital in Hereford.

He was then transferred to John Radcliffe Hospital, in Oxford, on Monday before undergoing successful surgery 24 hours later.

Thornton must stay under observation for another day, however.

The jockey tweeted on Wednesday morning: "They're keeping me in till tomorrow morning: suppose it's for the best."
