Officials at the Monmouthshire circuit needed to assess conditions at daylight following 8.5 millimetres of overnight rainfall.

And although the going is heavy, the track is not waterlogged.

Clerk of the course Keith Ottesen said: “It was still quite wet at 5am, but the track has taken it well in the last few hours and racing goes ahead.”
