Joncol remains in Hennessy frame

Paul Nolan is praying for plenty of rain to tempt him to run Joncol in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury later this month.

The County Wexford trainer is keen to take his classy staying chaser to the Berkshire track, but only if the ground is soft.

Should dry conditions prevail then Joncol will be saved for the John Durkan Memorial Chase at Punchestown on December 11.

The 2010 Irish Hennessy winner showed he was back to his best when winning at Thurles earlier this month on his first start since February.

“Joncol’s doing fine and if Newbury comes up soft we’ll take our chance in the Hennessy. If not we’ll go for the John Durkan,” said Nolan.

Joncol is trading at around 14-1 with the leading bookmakers for the Hennessy on November 26.
