Zombie alive and well in sprint

Amazombie produced a strong late run to land the Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Churchill Downs.

Held up well off a searing early gallop by Mike Smith, the five-year-old took closer order as Force Freeze made his bid for victory on the turn for home.

Force Freeze still narrowly led with a furlong to go, but Bill Spawr’s Amazombie edged ahead and though never pulling clear, he still scored a shade cosily.

Spawr said: “I feel very fortunate and lucky. It was a ’win and you’re in’ race last time (at Santa Anita) and we wouldn’t be here but for that. No words (can describe the feeling).”
