Tartiflette takes Doncaster opener
Ed McMahon's Tartiflette sprang a 20-1 surprise in the first division of the Betfred Cock O'The North EBF Maiden at Doncaster today.
Having finished eighth on her debut at Windsor, she was far more street-wise on this occasion and she stayed on nicely to defeat Pacific Heights by a head with the favourite, Jellicle, third.
Henry Candy's Mrs Huffey was backed at fancy prices in the morning and having missed the break stayed on nicely to claim fourth.
"She's a nice filly, she was just too green to do herself justice first time out," said McMahon of the Graham Gibbons-ridden winner.
"The ground would have been plenty quick enough for her at Windsor and she definitely appreciated the cut today.
"I thought she'd improved and six furlongs is certainly sharp enough for her."
